Because Jazz and UK Garage, Classical and Pop, Country and Reggae can all put me in a good gear, but nothing really compares to tracks that start polite and end up sounding like someone’s wrestling with their inner demons armed only with distortion pedals. Grunge and metal have raised more spirits than any self-help podcast ever could. Did lyrics ever make complete sense? To me they do, even if it’s mostly metaphors from medieval times. If there’s enough angst, heavy guitars, or the vague chance a mosh pit could spontaneously form in your living room, it’s a masterpiece to me.
